Gifted and Talented: Grade 3 Entry

PS 88Q is excite to announce that this SY 2022-2023, we will host an incoming Grade 3 Gifted and Talented Class.  This is part of Mayor Adams and Chancellor Banks new initiative to offer G and T options to students.  Below is some information regarding applications.

 

 

Admissions for Grade 3 G&T Programs

 

This process differs slightly based on where students currently attend grade 2.

Who Can Participate, and How?

· For current grade 2 students in DOE public schools

  •  DOE identifies the highest-performing grade 2 students—meaning their core course grades are in the top 10% at their school.
  •  DOE invites the families of these students to apply to Grade 3 G&T programs.
  •  Invited families can apply to Grade 3 G&T programs between May 31 and June 13 by submitting a G&T application online with MySchools(Open external link) or through a Family Welcome Center.
  • Please note: Grade 2 students invited to participate in Grade 3 G&T admissions can also apply for grade 3 seats at K-to-5 G&T programs.
For current grade 2 students in charter, private, or parochial schools
  • For your child's application to be considered, be sure to do both of the following:
    •  Apply to Grade 3 G&T programs between May 31 and June 13 by submitting a G&T application online with MySchools(Open external link) or through a Family Welcome Center, and § Submit your child's grades to a Family Welcome Center by July 1.
    • The DOE will then determine which charter, private, and parochial school applicants qualify as eligible.
 

How Grade 3 G&T Program Offers Are Made

  • · All invited/eligible applicants will be considered for offers.
  • · Offers for these programs are determined based on families' application choices, programs' seat availability, and admissions priorities. These programs give priority to siblings of current students and children who live or attend school in specific districts.
  • · All applicants will receive a results letter in late July 2022; these results may include a G&T offer and any information about waitlists.
